오상의 비오 신부님과 고통 (9)

 

한 때 어느 소녀가 비오 신부님에게 상처의 고통이 어떤지 물어 보았습니다, 오상의 신부님은 "주님께서 내게 장식품으로 주셨다고 생각하니?" 라고 대답하셨습니다.

 

'나는 비오 신부님을 증언하다 '라는 그의 책에 있에서 프라 모데스티노(Fra Modestino)는 오상의 비오 신부님의 고통에 대한 몇 가지 측면을 밝힙니다.

 

신부님이 선종하신 후에 그는 오상의 비오(Padre Pio) 신부님의 소지품을 분류하도록 요청 받았습니다. 그는 신부님의 제의, 스카프, 속 옷 등을 보면서... 압도당하여 갑자기 "피, 피, 도처에 피가 있어!"라고 소리 쳤습니다. 미사 때 오상의 비오 신부님 자신의 얼굴을 닦던 손수건조차도 피로 얼룩져 있었습니다. 비오 (Padre Pio)신부님은 1947년 프라 모데스티노 (Fra Modestino)에게 "내 아들아, 내 삶은 계속적인 치명(순교)이오." 라고 말씀하신 것은 그리 놀랄 일이 아닙니다.

 

오상의 비오(Padre Pio) 신부님은 일주일에 한 번씩 기둥에서 채찍질을 경험했습니다. 신부님은 지독한 다섯 개의 상처를 가지고 있는 상황에서, 가시관의 고통을 받았습니다. "미사 때 종종 오상의 비오(Padre Pio) 신부님은 오른 손 가운데 손가락(중지)을 두어 고통을 유발하는 무언가를 들려고 하는 것처럼 시도했습니다." 라고 모데스티노(Modestino)는 전합니다. 신부님의 속옷에 묻은 얼룩은 그분이 또한 십자가 운반의 고통을 겪었다는 것을 보여주었습니다.

 

오상의 비오(Padre Pio) 신부님은 하루에 50그램의 혈액을 잃었으며, 그 양은 50년 간 총 900킬로그램에 달했습니다. "내가 얼마나 많은 고통을 겪었는지 네가 알고 있다면!“ 신부님은 프라 모데스티노(Fra Modestino)에게 말했습니다. "한 겨울 밤에 나는 한 겹의 침대 시트로 덮고 있는데....일어나면 온통 땀에 젖어있다.”

 

오상의 비오(Padre Pio) 신부님은 고통이 무엇인지 아셔서, 1940년에 “고통의 더는 집" 이라고 부르는 병원을 짓기로 결심한 것입니다. 그곳에서 아픈 몸이 최고의 치료와 간호 그리고 깊은 신앙적 환경을 제공받을 수 있다.

 

9. Padre Pio and Suffering

 

Once a girl asked Padre Pio if the wounds hurt, and he replied: “Do you think that the Lord gave them to me for a decoration?”

 

Fra Modestino in his book, reveals some aspects of the suffering of the Padre:

 

He was asked to sort out Padre Pio’s belongings after he had died; while he had a look at the Padre’s vestments, scarves, undershirts… overwhelmed he suddenly uttered these words: “blood, blood, everywhere blood!” Even the Padre’s handkerchiefs with which he used to wipe his face during Mass were stained with blood. No wonder Padre Pio told Fra Modestino in 1947: “My son, my life is a continuous martyrdom.”

 

Padre Pio experienced the scourging at the pillar once a week; on top of suffering from his five wounds, he also suffered the crowning of thorns: “Often during the Mass, Padre Pio used to put the middle finger of his right hand at his temple as if he was trying to lift something that caused him pain,” said Fra Modestino. The stain on his undershirts showed that he also suffered the carrying of the Cross. Padre Pio lost 50 g of blood a day, which in 50 years amounted to 900 kg. “If you knew how much I suffer! he told Fra Modestino; “we are in the middle of winter and at night I am covered with only a bed sheet and yet, I wake up soaked in sweat.”

 

Padre Pio knew what suffering was, that is why in 1940 he decided to build a hospital he called “House for the relief of Suffering” where aching bodies would receive the best of treatment in a caring and deeply religious environment.
