Pope  We know what Jesus did on that occasion. Instead of returning home with his family, he stayed in Jerusalem, in the Temple, causing great distress to Mary and Joseph who were unable to find him. For this little ¡°escapade¡±, Jesus probably had to beg forgiveness of his parents. The Gospel doesn¡¯t say this, but I believe that we can presume it. Mary¡¯s question, moreover, contains a certain reproach, revealing the concern and anguish which she and Joseph felt.

— The Pope's 'insightful' interpretation of Luke 2:48-51

Is it true that ¡°Jesus had to beg for forgiveness from Mary (who reproached Him for staying back and made her and St Joseph unnecessarily distressed) and St Joseph¡±?

Jesus did not beg for forgiveness from Mary, as He had not done anything wrong, neither did Mary criticised Jesus for what He did: both Mary and Joseph did not understand why He did it, but they never even thought that He did something wrong! Our Lady says: ¡°WHY hast Thou done so?¡± She does NOT say: ¡°you were wrong to do so¡¦¡± He gave them the reason ¡°I must be about My Father¡¯s business¡±, which reason they did not understand¡¦ at least not then. Later, certainly at the foot of the Cross, our Lady did not ask Him again why was He the source of so much sufferings for her: she knew the answer: He was about His Father¡¯s business, which was the Redemption of the world through the Sacrifice of the Cross! And she fully united herself with that Great Business of the Father: she became thus Coredemptrix!
