Miraclous Statue
Q  In October this year, photos of a statue of the Blessed Mother in a Catholic Church in Subang went viral on social media alleging that the polyresin statue had miraculously turned into porcelain and grown taller by 7.5cm after it was blessed. The statue also purportedly smiled a little and shed tears. Pious Catholics began to flock to the church to have a look at the statue. (The photos were also shared in the QMHR RC Community Group WhatsApp group. Here is Fr Laisney¡¯s take on the matter.)

A  ¡°As for the ¡°Miracle growing statue¡±, just a word of caution. ¡°Be ye therefore wise as serpents and simple as doves¡± (Mt. 10:16). What is important to believe is the PUBLIC revelation, from which one judges any private revelation. One is not obliged to believe any private revelation; it is not because one statue of our Lady appears to grow that one should be too fast and running to ¡°believe¡± in these ¡°messages¡±. This is far from sufficient for recognising a good proper supernatural origin. The devil has many tricks in his sleeves and knows how to lead people astray, even under the name of our Lady. Remember some (phony) apparitions where the ¡°Lady¡± is much too talkative to be the Blessed Virgin Mary (e.g. Medjugorie, etc.) So I would recommend first a great reserve and prudence.
