기적의 성상

질문  금년(2015년) 10월 수방(Subang)에 있는 가톨릭교회의 성모상 사진이 방송 매체에 빠르게 널리 퍼지고 있다고 주장하는데, 성상(聖像)이 축성된 이후 합성수지 성상이 자기(瓷器)로 변하고 7.5cm 정도 더 커졌다는 겁니다. 또한 그 성상은 미소를 짓고 눈물을 흘린다고 합니다. 경건한 가톨릭 신자들이 떼를 지어 그 성상을 보러 그 교회로 가기 시작하는데 그 사진이 웹 싸이트에도 게재되어있습니다. 이에 대해 레네 신부님의 말씀이 있습니다.

답변 ‘커져가는 성상’에 관해서 하고자 하는 단 한마디 말은 조심하라는 겁니다. “지혜롭기는 뱀과 같이 하고, 순직하기는 비둘기 같이 하라.”(마테오10:16)

 어느 사적 계시를 판단하는데 있어서 믿는데 중요한 것은 공적계시입니다. 어떠한 사적계시라도 믿으라고 강요되어선 안 됩니다. 성모님의 한 성상이 이러한 ‘메세지’를 믿게끔 너무나 빠르게 커가고 눈물을 흘리는 것으로 보여서가 아닙니다. 이것은 훌륭하고 적절한 초자연적인 기원을 인식하기에 너무나 부족합니다.

 악마는 자기 소매에 많은 속임수를 감추고 어떻게 하면 사람들을 길에서 벗어나게 할까, 심지어 성모님의 이름으로도 속임수를 씁니다. ‘성모님’이 복되신 동정 마리아라고 보기엔 너무나 말이 많은(예: 메쥬고리예 등) 그런 거짓 발현이 있음을 기억하십시오. 그러므로 먼저 뒤로 물러나 유보하고 신중을 기할 것을 권하는 바입니다.

 

Miraclous Statue
Q  In October this year, photos of a statue of the Blessed Mother in a Catholic Church in Subang went viral on social media alleging that the polyresin statue had miraculously turned into porcelain and grown taller by 7.5cm after it was blessed. The statue also purportedly smiled a little and shed tears. Pious Catholics began to flock to the church to have a look at the statue. A  “As for the “Miracle growing statue”, just a word of caution. “Be ye therefore wise as serpents and simple as doves” (Mt. 10:16). What is important to believe is the PUBLIC revelation, from which one judges any private revelation. One is not obliged to believe any private revelation; it is not because one statue of our Lady appears to grow that one should be too fast and running to “believe” in these “messages”. This is far from sufficient for recognising a good proper supernatural origin. The devil has many tricks in his sleeves and knows how to lead people astray, even under the name of our Lady. Remember some (phony) apparitions where the “Lady” is much too talkative to be the Blessed Virgin Mary (e.g. Medjugorie, etc.) So I would recommend first a great reserve and prudence.
