Hate The Sin, Love The Sinner

“(From St Augustine): if God did not love sinners, He would not have sent His only begotten Son on earth to save them from their sins! So yes, God loves sinners, but not their sins! Like a good doctor loves the sick, but not their sickness!

St Augustine explains further: it is like there are two things to consider, the man and the sin: God made the man, and the man himself made his sin. Destroy what you have made so that God may save what He has made! Our Lord Jesus Christ precisely came to be the great remedy for men, to destroy sin by His death on the Cross and save men from their sins. In order to participate in that victory of Christ over sin, victory by the Sacrifice of the Cross, one must be united with our Lord Jesus Christ, united with His Cross, as St Paul says: we are “joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him” (Rom. 8:17).

Saint Paul says further: “let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus… He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross” (Phil. 2:5, 8). Renouncing to self, letting Christ live in us, be the light of our mind, and the love of our heart, this is the Christian life. The difficulty is that people want the benefits without the price, they want peace with God without self-renouncement… and it simply does not work! “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Lk. 9:23). “Whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple” (Lk. 14:27).

Solution: surrender to our Lord Jesus Christ! Stop resisting the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ! Accept at last to follow Him on the path of the Cross: this is the path to eternal life! Let the example of all the Saints encourage you: what they did, you can do, with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ! Above all, let the Blessed Virgin Mary lead you, she who is the Mother of Mercy and does not put away the sinners, but rather leads him to the foot of the Cross, as she led Mary Magdalen!
