Q1  I read the Open Letter to Confused Catholics, and in it, Arch Lefebvre actually questioned the validity of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Can you explain why?

A1  Usually the modernists did not touch the substance of the sacraments except for the sacrament of confirmation. They use "any vegetable oil" instead of exclusively olive oil and they use a form taken from eastern baptism which was never used by bishops to confirm. What to do then?

Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX conditionally reconfirm, which is what St Alphonsus says one should do in case of doubtful sacraments.

Q2   Why would they disturb that sacrament? What is the point?

A2   The Protestants do not acknowledge Confirmation as a separate sacrament. They only recognise Baptism and Eucharist. The modernists, in many ways, wanted a "rapprochement" with the Protestants, and they truly neglected this Sacrament. Hence their very sloppy approach. This started already in the late forties, when some modernist theologians started to claim that "olive oil" was only required by Ecclesiastical law, and not by Divine Law - while a mere 40 years before the French "Dictionary of Catholic Theology" (Dictionnaire de Théologie Catholique) could write: it is DE FIDE that olive oil is required for Confirmation, and their reason was very simple: it was taught "always, everywhere and by all": there was NO discordant voice until the 1940s!!! How could they dare to depart from such unanimity, it is simply unbelievable.

Practically the best for you (and your family) is to get conditionally confirmed by the SSPX bishop next year (he is supposed to go to KK).

For instance, in Malaysia where you have so much palm oil, if that were used for Confirmation, it is certain that it would be invalid - because it would be against the whole unanimous tradition of the Church, whih the Pope has no power to change, especially in "catimini", almost in hiding, since there is NO authoritative document that deals with such important matter (see on the matter of the Sacrament of Holy Orders the encyclical "Sacramentum Ordinis" by Pope Pius XII as a comparison). oblation" which cannot be defiled by any unworthiness or malice on the part of those who offer it; which the Lord foretold through Malachias must be offered in every place as a clean oblation [Mal. 1:11 ] to His name, which would be great among the gentiles, and which the Apostle Paul writing to the Corinthians has clearly indicated, when he says that they who are defiled by participation of the "table of the devils" cannot become partakers of the table of the Lord [ 1 Cor. 10:21], understanding by table in each case, the altar. It is finally that [sacrifice] which was prefigured by various types of sacrifices, in the period of nature and the Law [ Gen. 4:4;8:20;12:8;22; Ex: passim], inasmuch as it comprises all good things signified by them, as being the consummation and perfection of them all.
