A  Many religious orders have “third order” for faithful who would like to participate more in the spirit, life and fruits of a particular religious order. The nature of religious life is the practice of the Evangelical Counsels. Often orders have vows: the “three vows” of poverty, chastity and obedience. The brothers of the SSPX have the three vows. Archbishop Lefebvre always explained that the priests were even more bound to the practice of the three evangelical counsels by their priesthood, by their ordination, than monks by their vows. Now the faithful are usually not in a position to practice these counsels in the same level; yet they may participate in the spirit of the Society of St. Pius X all centred on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
