Is it a sin for a Traditional Catholic to marry a pagan? If a Catholic marries one and gets a marriage blessing only like the NO can he/she receives Holy Communion when he/she joins the Traditional Catholic mass? What if the other spouse refuses to become a Catholic?

¡°The Church forbids marriage with a non-Catholic. This was already true in the Old Testament: it is explicitly in the bible: Israelites were forbidden to marry outside of the Holy People. The reason is for the protection of the Faith, both of the children to come and for the faithful spouse; moreover it is also for the protection of the bond of marriage: indeed when there is unity at the level of the Faith, i.e. at the deepest level of the great principles of life, it helps to persevere when the emotions of the first years are passed!

In the Canon Law, the Church made thus an ¡°impediment¡± to marriage with a non-Catholic. The impediment renders invalid any attempt to marry a non-baptised person, and illicit to marry any baptised non-Catholic.
In one word, a Catholic cannot marry outside the Catholic Church. Hence, yes, it is a sin to marry a non-Catholic.

However, the Church can dispense from Church laws; in non-Catholic countries, where there are many non-Catholics and fewer Catholics, it is not uncommon to give such dispensation from this impediment. If one has received such dispensation before the marriage, then it is valid. However the Church used to require some conditions before giving such dispensation: the main condition was 1/ a signed promised from the non-Catholic spouse that he/she would put no impediment in the practice of the faith by the Catholic spouse and the children and 2/ a promised signed by both that ALL the children would be baptised and raised Catholics. It also required that there would be ¡°the moral certitude that these promises would be fulfilled¡± (i.e. if there was a ground to doubt the sincerity of these promises, the dispensation should NOT be given), and lastly the Church required the Catholic party to prudently care for the conversion of the non-Catholic party!

The modernists have changed that, and now only require the Catholic party to promise that; but then the non-Catholic party feels that he/she is not obliged to respect that agreement since he/she did not sign anything! And this is very damaging for the children and for the Catholic spouse.

If a Catholic has thus ¡°married¡± outside the Catholic Church (i.e. without dispensation and without a ¡°Catholic marriage¡± with the exchange of consent before a priest), this is not a marriage at all: it is merely a concubinage. No priest can give a blessing to concubinage! It would be a sin on his part, most evidently. Similarly for divorced and remarried people: no priest can bless such situation which are merely adulterous union.

Since marriage involves God, because of the transmission of life of which God is the author, it ought to be done according to God¡¯s laws, and CANNOT be done with disregards to God¡¯s laws. Any attempt to do so is just deception: one may fake a ceremony, with a cake, etc., but this is just a façade, without the real thing. What counts is the real thing, not the façade.

If someone returns to the Traditional Mass, and has such marital situation that needs to be corrected, he/she should first see the priest and discuss frankly his/her situation. The priest will indicate what is the Catholic solution to that situation.

If the problem is just the impediment of mixed-religion, but both party would be otherwise free to marry, then it is usually possible to obtain the dispensation from this impediment (provided the above-mentioned precautions were fulfilled), because the Church wants to encourage people to the return to the practice of the Faith. Hence, provided the non-Catholic party is willing to sign these promises, the marriage could take place (this time, validly) with the proper dispensation even before the conversion of that non-Catholic party.
